UV systems are utilized by manufacturers of high-quality organic compounds to enable photochemical processes in organic synthesis. In such applications, light-driven synthesis (preparative photochemistry) is employed to produce substances including vitamins, hormones, fragrances, and other valuable components. Such systems are commonly applied in these scenarios. Photochemical synthesis offers the advantage of shortening complex synthesis steps, thereby achieving high yields and high purity. In many preparative photoreactions, high purity is attributed to moderate reaction conditions, as thermal side reactions are effectively suppressed. Additionally, photochemistry enables numerous reactions to be performed at very low medium temperatures; it is not uncommon for preparations to be photochemically produced at temperatures far below freezing.
